2016 Morton Village Archaeology Field Internship Information

We are accepting applications for student interns at the Morton Village Archaeological Excavation Project in Lewistown, Illinois. The internship is a for-credit opportunity; students will enroll in the Anthropology Internship: Archaeology Field Internship (ANP 476, section TBA) for 3 credits and there is an additional course fee of $500. Food and housing provided.

morton_studentsWho: Students with prior archaeology experience. If you have completed a MSU archaeology field school you are qualified for the internship. Those with other outside experience may qualify as well. The number of interns that will be accepted is limited based on the needs of the project; this year we anticipate a maximum of three interns.

What: Interns will assist with the 2016 Morton Village Field School (ANP 464) by working with the project teaching staff. You will gain experience at a higher level of responsibility than you experienced as a field school student. You will assist with field logistics, help train less experienced field school students in excavation and laboratory techniques, and participate/assist in all discussion and workshop sessions. Focusing on a particular skill, like lab work or mapping, is negotiable.

When: Interns will start several days before the field school and assist with site closure – exact dates to be determined.

How to apply: Email Dr. O’Gorman ogorman@msu.edu expressing your interest and indicating your prior field school and/or archaeological experience.  Potential interns will be selected based on the email and will be invited to discuss their interests and qualifications. We will accept applications until February 26th.
