To talk about Chinese history and archaeology, no one can miss Qing Dynasty. Qing dynasty is the last feudal dynasty in china;s long history.

and everyone has dreamed about the wealth of Qing Emperor.

as we know, the wealth of Emperor goes into them tomb.

Qing history last two hundred sixty eight years. After two centuries and 60 years of plunder, the rulers accumulated endless treasure. The extravagant Empress put a large number of rare treasures to be buried in his own grave after death, and expect to continue to enjoy in another world. Of course, the imperial tomb was fantastic and beautiful, but in fact, it is a evidence  that people suffered a lot brutalizing in the rule of Qing and is also the centralized feudal evil witness.

For the age and location of the mausoleum that had been built, it can be divided into the Early Qing outside the center china, Eastern Qing Tombs and Qingxiling tombs.

so, today post, we will write about eastern Qing tomb.

The Eastern Qing Tombs are an imperial tomb complex of the Qing Dynasty located in Zunhua, 125 kilometers away from Beijing. They are the largest, most complete, and best preserved extant mausoleum complex that are found in China. The tomb of QinShihuang is maybe bigger, but it is still underground. And 5 emperors 15 empresses, 136 imperial concubines, 3 princes, and 2 princesses of the Qing Dynasty were buried here.

November 30, 2000, The Eastern Qing Tombs was added into world cultural heritage list, and UNESCO World Heritage experts said that Eastern Qing Tombs is a masterpiece of human creative genius ”

The Eastern Qing tombs is more famous than other Qing royal tomb is not only because the most famous Qing leader, Emperor Kang Xi, Emperor Qian Long and empress dowager Ci Xi were buried there, but also because the big rob to the tomb of Cixi who are known as most luxurious leader.

the most interesting fact about this is that the tomb of Ci Xi was robbed by government.

Sun DianYing who are one of the army commander in the government. at time time, the milit power means the power on politic. so this guy robbed and clean everything out of the Cixi Tomb.A lot of treasure that no one has ever seen was robbed, including the famous  legendary luminous pearl.

of course, a lot of treasure was broken during the robbing time.

and this is why the tomb of Cixi is four of the tomb which is  now opening to the public.

although it is the sign of criminal feudal time, but as the chinese treasure, i do not hope any other tomb will be destroyed one more time.

Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum and Qin terracotta

As the last blog, i decided to write about Terracotta Army, located Lindong District,

Xi’an City, ShanXi province of China. This is where my hometown is.

Ancient feudal kings believed in the immortal soul after death in Egypt, India and other places

.So the mummy, cremation and other customs were created.

Chinese kings like to built Tombs underground.

They wanted to live in the underworld as good as they were alive.

So the mausoleum  was filled in mercury as underground rivers and the sea;

bead and jade  was furnished as the palace where the Qin Shihuang,first king to unify china, lived ;

and slaves and his wife were buried alive to serve him.

Qin terracotta pit is located approximately 955.5 meters in the east of Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum mound.

Moreover, It is located in the periphery of the Qin ShiHuang ‘s Mausoleum in order to protect the whole mausoleum.

1987, Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum and Terracotta Warriors in Pit

was approved by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in “World Heritage List”

The founding of Qin terracotta is quite interesting.

In the spring of 1974, several villagers were sent to open a wells which is not a good errand.

The villagers found a terracotta figurines with  pink face, dark hair, just like they were alive,.

but after a few hours later the color was oxidized into black,

the villagers feel that this is an ominous thing and was going to give him bad luck.

So they decided to throw it out.

But there were a few literate farmers who sent figurines secretly to upper rank government and make the terracotta in front of the world.

There are three pit which has been digging, but there are more underground.

Just unearthed figurines are with color, but would be soon oxidized into black.

So in order to protect the  figurines, the Chinese government has stopped the digging of terracotta

until the archaeological technology can maintain their original appearance some days.

The Figurines were made as the size of normal warrior.

And these were made by processing firing, in all manual labor.

The most amazing about these figurines is that the appearance of the face on every warrior is different.

Now day, more than 10000 warrior figurines has been found.

Besides the warrior, a lot ot weapon, stone horse and War chariot , was also buried in the site.

From the terracotta, we can know how strong the Qin was two thousands year ago.

It used a lot of human labor, material resources , and up to 70 million people were participated in the construction process.

At the end,I hope the Mausoleum of the Qin Emperor will be digged out and remain its beauty safely one day.

Chinse Building in Archaeology

When I checked the World Heritage List, As of 2012, Italy became the country which has the largest number of World Heritage World Heritage– 44, Spain 39, China 34.Italy has been a great dynasty of ancient Rome and the center of the European literary Fuxing,
and the long struggle in Spain Christian countries and Muslim. So these two cultures have huge amounts of  World Heritage List is understandable, But China, which is considered as the only ancient civilization which has been stable for thousands of year in the world , predating 1500 earlier than the Roman Empire appeared in the world, so it is
reasonable for me to doubt why chinese cultural heritage has far less remains than Italy and Spain .
Inevitably, when the rise of a dynasty is in various places. When the dynasty, the rise time, the emperor is usually to build buildings in various places to display their own power.
China from ancient times to the end of the feudal dynasties of 1911, a total of eleven dynasty should have left many magnificent buildings, such as the royal palace, but existing only the Forbidden City of the Ming and Qing dynasties, the reason is that the ancient Chinese engineers prefer to use woodrather than stones, because the wood more easily obtain and transport relative to the stone. And China’s rulers need to quickly build, so the wood is their first choice, however, because the wood vulnerable to fire, termites, rain corrosion, compared to masonry not long maintained.Frequent dynasty replacement is also an important reason, Qin Shi Huang built Metrical, quite area and now the world’s largest existing palace – the Forbidden City in Beijing, but because of the tyranny of the Qin Dynasty, Qin Shi Huang created decades was overthrown, the rebelsburned this great building. This kind of thing happened too many times in the history of China, destroyed many great building. And complex religion also contribute a lot, because Confucianism and Buddhism compete for the support of the Chinese royal family in 2000, so whenever beliefs change, Buddhist, Taoist or Confucian ruins will be national destruction. Therefore, most of the Chinese ancient buildings has been preserved. By contrast in Europe, due to the huge cost of stone buildings constructed, each dynasty accustomed to save rather than destroy, which left behind a large number of buildings. These are what i am thinking about today’s Archeology issue, I hope we can protect our legacy of monuments in  great effort
