Week 1 Activity Post: China

China is one of the four ancient civilizations in the world and has a long history. China is located in East Asia. It is a unified multi-ethnic country with Chinese civilization as the main body and Han nationality as the main nationality. China has a large population and ethnic group, and its population has risen every year. During the Northern Song Dynasty, China’s population exceeded 100 million. During the Qing Dynasty, the population exceeded 400 million. By 2013, China’s population reached 1.3 billion. In 2010, China’s GDP exceeded US$7.2 trillion, making it the second largest economy in the world after the United States. As usual, women’s life expectancy is longer than man. Also, Youth (15-24 years) literacy rate male and female are all over 99%. And skilled attendant at birth 2008-2012, urban and rural are all over 99%. About disparities by household wealth, UNICEF’s Country Statistics didn’t record it. We know, total fertility rate in China is really high, in1970 the rate is about 5.5. But in 2012 the total fertility rate is about 1.7. And In 1970, China under-5 mortality rate is about 111, really high mortality rate, however, in 2012 under-5 mortality rate is only 14.
