The article that I choose is written by Amy Harmon, the tile of the paper is “In DNA Era, New Worries About Prejudice”. This is an article released in the year of 2007 in the New York Times. This article talks about the genetics improvements that people made those years with the relationship about races in the world. Besides, more and more wording are about the problems of the new racism or discrimination according to the developing of people’s genetic research. This article record a lot different scientists or famous people like the Nobel Prize winner’s attitude according to the development of the genetics.
At the first place, this article talks about the fact that nowadays, genetic information is slipping out of the laboratory and into everyday life, and what’s more, carrying with the inescapable message that people of different races have different DNA. Those information are now spreading to the people’s everyday. It’s true that the few of the bits of human genetic code that vary between individuals with their physical or behavioral traits. There are some benefits from those biological researches. Those researches could help people making clearer about the genetics and more importantly, those researches and improvements could help people coping better with genetic elements in some diseases and health. More over, those improvements could also help people getting more familiar with ourselves.
Although genetic researches and studies have all those benefits, but many people worry more about the discrimination and the bad influence of those research results spread to the public. There are pros and cons debate in the society about the difference of DNA result release to the society. In my personal opinion, I thin the research and studies about DNA and genetics in difference races have a lot benefits, but it should not become the arguments for people to more discrimination. Nothing change and all races should all receive respects and equality. This is the main point that we learn from this week I think. Although there may have some differences, but what people should do is the respects and equality that they should have and should provide to others.
