While all assignments are graded on a point scale (ie. 15/20) and the running tally of the semester grade on D2L will be displayed as percent, final grades will be given on a 4.0 scale. The final grade will be calculated using the following method:

  • 90 – 100 = 4.0
  • 85 – 89.99 = 3.5
  • 80 – 84.99 = 3.0
  • 75 – 79.99 = 2.5
  • 70 – 74.99 – 2.0
  • 65 – 69.99 = 1.5
  • 60 – 64.99 = 1.0
  • <60 = 0

Your final grade will be based on the following criteria:

Introductory Blog Post (5%) – Introduce yourself to your classmates in 150-words, include your year in school, major, where you’re from, what you like to do outside of school, and some fun facts about yourself. You may also include a photo, which can be uploaded into your post.  This introductory post is due on May 15th by 11:59pm EST.

Weekly Blog Post/Responses (25%) – throughout the semester, students will be required to write and publish 1 blog post to the course website per week. Each week will feature a specific prompt or question that students need to respond to in their post. Each Blog Post must be at least 400 words in length (though students are welcome to write more than that if they want).   Make sure you are creating a brand new post and not just “replying” to or “commenting” on the schedule page. Your post should be thoughtful, respectful, grammatically correct, and address the points listed in the prompt. Make sure you categorize the post properly (you’ll notice that there is a category for each week) and that you are publishing the post instead of just saving a draft.

In addition to the posts, students are expected to respond to at least one post made by their fellow students.  The responses must be at least 200 words.  The response must be thorough, thoughtful, and respectful.  Think about your response as a conversation with the author of the original post.  Students are welcome to respond to posts that someone has already responded to (remember, this is a conversation).  Students should only respond to posts from that week (as opposed to reaching back to respond to previous week’s posts)

In weeks 1-6, posts posts are due by 11:59pm EST on Friday, and the responses are due by 11:59pm EST on Sunday.  In week 7 of the class (which is a short week), posts are due by 11:59pm EST on Tuesday (June 26th) and the response us due by 11:59pm EST on Thursday (June 28th).

Students must complete both the entry and response in order to get credit for the assignment.  If students meet all of the requirements for the assignment (due date, length requirement, entry + response), they will receive full credit.  If students don’t meet all of the requirements, they will not receive credit at all.  No partial credit is given for partially complete Blog Posts/Responses.

Weekly Exams (70%) – Each week, students are required to complete a short exam.  The weekly exams will be accessible on D2L and will cover everything covered in that week’s content. The exams are not cumulative.  The exams will comprise multiple choice, and fill in the blank type questions. During Weeks 1-6, these exams will be accessible Wednesday at 9:00am EST and must be completed by Sunday at 11:59pm EST of each week. You will only have 90 minutes to complete your exam once started and will only be allowed 1 attempt. In week 7 (which is a shortened week), the exam will be accessible on Monday (June 25) at 9am EST and must be completed by Thursday (June 28) at 11:59pm EST.
