Charles Cleland, Virgil Noble and Susan Branstner excavated the site during the 1980s to relocate the previous excavation areas and expand them to examine the Tionontate Huron occupation of the area near the mission. At least one longhouse wall was recognized, along with several structural trenches. These excavations were also undertaken to collect data that would be incorporated into the museum for public display and interpretation. Susan Branstner later incorporated data from the site into her dissertation, which is entitled: Decision-Making Processes in a Culture Contact Context: The Case of the Tionontate Huron of the Upper Great Lakes. |
