Dorm Life at Saints’ Rest
What better way to understand the life of a student than by walking into his or her room? It's as true today as it was 150 years ago. Though we don’t have any photos of dorm rooms in Saints’ Rest, the data we excavated and retrieved from the archives let us reconstruct it from its parts. This page uses artifacts from the excavations and archival information to explore what sorts of things were found in dorm rooms and how they were used.
This is a turn of the century dorm room. Some of the objects are different from those in Saints’ Rest, like the electric lamp and the radiatior. Much of the other objects are probably quite similar to those found in student rooms in the mid 1800s.
