Activity Post- Week 7

Over the last six weeks, I have had the opportunity to research and learn about various topics as they relate to women and health. I was really looking forward to taking this course because I thought that it would broaden my knowledge in regards to women’s studies. In addition to that, I learned some new things about anthropology, in terms of theories, and perspectives. Due to that, I feel that I can now take these approaches and use them in other aspects of my academic career. What I enjoyed most was focusing on a specific issue in a specific country, so that I could really get to know it on a deeper level than some of the other topics. Now I feel like I have a really good baseline of knowledge about the abortion crisis in Ghana.

If I could change anything about the structure or composition of this course, it would be to make the class a little more interactive. While it was nice to only have to do one blog peer comment per week, I also feel like it doesn’t allow for much collaboration amongst one another. Additionally, I think it would also be interesting if we were able to present our final project in another format other than a paper. This could give students the opportunity to be a bit more creative by doing something like a PowerPoint, a Prezi, or maybe a video. By making this class more interactive and creative, I think that students could get a lot more out of the seven weeks!

  1. Anthropology has a really rich feminist tradition, and it is expressed differently in our discipline than in others. Especially when it comes to things like biogoical, cultural and linguistic anthropology and archeology; it’s really cool to see how the different sub disciplines use feminist theory. I also like your idea about having a more interactive final, it would be cool if you all could see each other’s finals and comment on them.
