Week 7 Activity Post:Overview

This class was a fantastic learning opportunity for me. I am a lyman briggs student, so most of my classes are focused on topics such as medicine, biology, and chemistry. Therefore, taking a class such as this is a big eye opener for me. For as much as I know about health and medicine, I know little about its effect on the world and all the diverse individuals within it. This class greatly improved my knowledge in this global view. I really enjoyed the opportunity to research in depth a particular health issue affecting women in a particular country. It allowed me the opportunity to research a health issue of interest to me using various perspectives to answer a variety of questions. This, however, was only part of the knowledge I gained from this course because I was able to read about other class members’ research and views as well. This aspect of the course was particularly interesting to me because it introduced many new ideas and perspectives previously unknown to me. I also enjoyed the smaller health topics taught through out the course in addition to doing research for the particular country we chose. I have an interest in public and global health, and have focused on this throughout my minor. Therefore, this class helped me to expand my knowledge in this area. Furthermore, although this class mainly focused on women’s health, I enjoyed the various perspectives of analysis used beyond the feminist perspective. This class was definitely very well-rounded and provided a very evidenced based learning experience. I believe this class is very well structured for the time allowed and the intended topic, and have no suggestions for any major improvements. I thoroughly enjoyed the course.

  1. Awesome! Glad that you liked this course, if you would like to take a course that is similar to this in subject matter I would recommend ANP 370. It focuses on global health and expands more into topics that we couldn’t get to in this class because of time. We also have two graduate level medical anthropology classes in anthropology which look really good on college transcripts, and those classes are really nice because they are small and class is entirely discussion based.
