Evolution may be slow but it also continuous and Humans still evolve in many ways today. Behavior and culture can have a major impact on the way humans interact with each other and with their environment which can play a part in natural selection and genetic drift. Disagreements and war can separate or isolate populations away from sustainable connections and resources, at the same time improve another populations odds at survival. Technology has also made it easier for populations to travel and communicate with each other, mixing the gene pool of populations who would otherwise not know one another. Many variations can be seen as a result of mixing genes, and this can have health benefits like fighting disease. We have very diverse diets and have even genetically modified food to produce more resources for us to eat. This provides better outcomes for groups of people who no longer have to fight or hunt for their food. Technology has also improved the way we care for our sick or disabled, with advanced medications and tools used to improve life expectancy and ability to fight off disease. With increased age comes the potential to be around longer to teach your young and your community. Traditions are passed down and practiced throughout generations helping us improve our quality of life and thrive with change. There are some downfalls to the progress we’ve made in evolution.. Over population and over production of resources has but the climate at risk. Pollution in our fresh waters and oceans threaten not only the oceans but our food source as well. We consume a mass amount of food and fast production of these resources can lead to health problems and damaging ecosystems. I’ve read an article about the hormones they inject in our beef is actually making children start puberty at a younger age!  -Which can completely alter an evolving species even if evolution happens over thousands of years. There are many ways that technology has improved the quality of our existence, but I am scared for what it might mean for our future. Global warming is affecting our climate and the longer we find ways around it instead of solutions the bigger the problem will be in the long run. It makes me nervous at how fast we are at making new tools of tech. To make things easier for us, but I just hope that humans evolve to realize we are the tools to fixing this climate disaster.

  1. The Human Race has a tragic dichotomy of me being capable of great goods and great misdeeds. The technology improvements made over the past 100 years are outstanding. Yet it is important that if we want this species that is the human race to evolve and survive to a more advanced unconceivable potential, that we use some modicum of higher faculties of reason. We have to use this technology and our privileged position of being sentient beings for good and not bad.
