Throughout the prehistoric record, there are leaps forward in the technology and science of past human societies. However, the notion that these leaps forward were caused by the interference from beings outside of our world is nonsensical.  Despite this though there are many pseudo archaeologists who dedicate their time to find the signs of extraterrestrial interference in our own evolution as a society.

From their side these leaps forward and the behavior of ancient societies are based on culture revolving around the extraterrestrial beings. To “prove” their claims the pseudo archaeologists look at archaeological findings then pick and choose from what they see for qualities that fit their own logic.  They typically disregard the whole history and cultural influences behind the artifacts and archaeological sites. Many of these sites have cultural reasons behind them and disregarding that fact while pulling at strings of extraterrestrials is not the way to go about proving their point. To help their case they will need to look at the whole history of not only the object but the cultural impacts behind them and what they meant to past civilizations. One such topic of dispute has to do with the pyramids of Egypt and how they got there. The pyramids are some of the greatest feats of the ancient Egyptian culture as physically how they were built so intricately while being so massive in scale almost seems impossible with the technology of the times.  This is where pseudo archaeologists thrive in their arguments for extraterrestrial interference as they could’ve had technology that would’ve assisted in the construction.  While that may be one easy way to explain away all the hard work put into those pyramids it completely disregards the cultural meaning behind the pyramids. The pyramids were built as resting places for the dead, more specifically dead royalty, so that they would not be disturbed on their trip to the afterlife. The pyramids were built because of the deep culture of the ancient society, not because of alien interference. For this reason the whole context is so important for any archaeological discovery so that archaeologists can give the best representation of those cultures from the past.

One such group that seems to ignore the culture behind archaeological sites is the group behind The History Channel’s popular show “Ancient Aliens”. In their pilot episode many different pieces of “evidence” for the interference of what they call “Ancient astronauts” were discussed. One such piece of evidence proposed had to do with the many sites around the world of large scale art that could only be seen in full from the sky. They claim that these pieces of art were made for the purpose of being seen by these beings and that these ancient civilizations actively “worshipped” the men from above. However, sites like that are found all around the world and were more cultural than this group of “researchers” give them credit for. Ancient cultures all around the world built larger than life sites but that does not constitute alien interference. They built them because of their culture its just what they did and it carried on through the generations. You can see this with many other pseudo archaeological claims about sites like the mounds in the United States where cultural phenomena are taken out of context for their own gain. The answer for these pieces of art don’t have to be grand explanations to do with extraterrestrials, they are the remains of ancient culture and their own way of life that was lost in our own evolution as a race.
