The etymology of a culture is a very important aspect. It signifies the advancement of education, society, politics, and culture itself. It holds the keys to problems when involving the way of life at specific times in a culture. We can use evidence from any point to examine the language and complexity of the language and gage life. We can receive this through oral word passed down by generations and through religious examples as well as the written language when things were so clearly documented and made for the use of permanence. For my research topic, I plan to explore the transition of (etymology) spoken word to written language (around 2500 B.C. to fourteen century A.D.) and how it has impacted and caused ripple effects into society and life in and around Ancient Egypt. I will explain this by focusing on changes in politics and elite society, as well as using evidence from the expansion of the state into other territories and through unification.

Beginning with a brief origin of the language and small background for basic references and knowledge. I will then plan to move into the idea of linking the expansion of communication to the expansion of the nation proper, civilization within and the process of developing more organized institutions. Using various examples of different artifacts like the Rosetta Stone and different events such as interactions with other cultures during the import and export of goods. This will show how the assimilation and strength of the Egyptian culture in being one of the oldest and causing a ripple effect through more than their own culture.

I will take periods of time where there were distinct changes in structure and shifts in language being are used. Using these periods as a focal point for my research on life in the civilization and important things transpiring. To give a complete picture of the impact and importance of language in society. I will also look at examples of complexity and patterns it to took evolve the language in a more sophisticated manner. Using this to transcend the idea of the advancement of wisdom and knowledge within organized institutions. Also demonstrating examples and changes in the sophistication of culture, with introductions of art, music, etc…

My three sources will aid in the breakdown and the basic understanding of the grammatical structure and complexities of the language. Allowing me to pinpoint times when there is a large shift in the language and use those date periods to further my research on the comings and goings of life. So far there are six distinct time periods; Archaic Egyptian (before 2600 B.C.), Old Egyptian (2600 – 2000 B.C.), Middle or Classical Egyptian (2000 – 1300 B.C.), Late Egyptian (1300 – 700 B.C.), Demotic (seventh century B.C. – fifth century A.D.) and Coptic (fourth century – fourteenth century A.D.).  Another resource will help me in giving examples and explaining the use of literacy in everyday life. As well as uses in literature and philosophy of the culture through a historical study. Linking pieces of ancient Egyptian language in with today’s Arabic and other known languages, as well as displaying the building blocks created from the etymology.
