Activity Post 7

Throughout the last seven weeks, I have enjoyed this course. My eyes have been opened to the many different women health issues throughout the world. To be honest, I was quite ignorant when I first began the class. I have walked away with knowledge about the many different cultural views of woman and their practices. I learned a lot about female genital cutting, mostly because that is my chosen health topics. I also learned a lot about birthing practices in countries like Vietnam and among the Inuit. The difference between those cultures making a push for medicalized labors and the trending non-medicalized births in the United States. The discriminatory views some biomedical systems have towards those women. It was particularly interesting when looking at Vietnam and how the midwife had to convince the women and her family that it was okay to go to the medical facility. This class has been very well done. It was organized and gave very clear direction. I had little to no questions about what assignments were asking me. I learned a lot more with the writing assignments than I would have through exams and tests and quizzes. I felt engaged and a part of a class rather than just a singular student. Responding and reading each other’s post played a big part in that. I don’t think there is anything that can be improved. It was a great summer course experience and I would recommend it to other students. Our teaching assistants did a fantastic job making sure we knew we could ask questions and with being flexible with summer schedules.

  1. Thankyou! I really appreciate that, and I’m happy that this class has helped broaden your world view. I could tell from your posts that you were learning a lot and that you were being open minded which can be a hard thing to do. I wish you luck in your future, and maybe I’ll see you in another anthropology or ISS course in the future.
